Hot and Precured Retreading of Tire
Tire retreading is a manufacturing process designed to extend the useful lifespan of a worn tire,which came about as an alternative to new tire.When a new tire reaches the end of its tread life(at the time of tread worn out), only 25% of the tyre is worn out. The remaining 75% of the tyre, which is the casing, is still intact and reusable.The casing gives the tire its shape and strength, and is the major contributor to cost.
Therefore retreading provides “a second useful service life” to the tire at a far lower cost as compared to new tire. Besides considerable cost effective benefits for the consumers,tire retreading provides substantial savings in terms of preserving natural resources which are limited on earth.
The tire production process consumes large amounts of energy. Tires are basically petrochemical products and 22 gallons of oil is required to manufacture one new truck tire whereas only 7 gallons of oil required for retreading the same tire.
Tire retreading is exactly an environmental friendly process which provides recycling of the tires instead of leaving them in landfills besides its substantial contribution to the national economy.
There are two methods of retreading tyres:
- Mold cure retreading(conventional)
- Precured retreading.
Most of the process steps are almost the same in both methods of retreading.
With an acceptable quality casing and tread rubber by using advanced technology together with controlled process conditions retreaded tire will be dependable and durable as much as the new tire, regardless of which method is used.
Being of an aircraft tire that can be retreaded up to 9 times although it’s running under very heavy service conditions with tons of load at an average speed of 250 km/hour . This is an important indicator for the reliability of tire retreading.
